Projects and health
Space Command finds the projects in the folders you choose: Git repos, Obsidian vaults, and Hugo sites. Each one gets its own scope in the Tasks tab, a health card, and a row on the projects board. Nothing becomes a project, or stops being one, without your say.
The projects board
To open the board:
- Click the Tasks tab.
- Choose All projects from the scope menu.
Every project is listed, busiest first, with:
- Its health dot.
- Its
PLAN.mdphase and progress, such as "2. Drafting · 6 of 9", or when it was last active, such as "Active 3 days ago". - Eight weeks of activity, from commits and file changes.
A project quiet past the stale threshold reads "Quiet since Aug 3rd" in Amber. A name in full has news since you last reviewed it, and the rest are dim.
| To | Do this |
|---|---|
| Open a project's scope | Click the project. |
| Find a project by name or folder | Press ⌘F, then type. |
With Quiet Mode on, projects with no recent activity fold into a Quiet (N) line at the end of the board. Click it to list them in place.
Suggested projects
Folders that look like projects are suggested under the board, such as "essays looks like a project".
To answer a suggestion:
- Click it. It says why it looks like a project: a
PLAN.md, numbered chapters, aproject:note, or a Hugo site inside another project. - Click Treat as Project to make it a project, or Not Now to put it away.
Press ⌘Z to take back a promotion you just made.
Stop treating a folder as a project
A folder you made a project can go back to what it was: a site inside its project, a suggestion, or a test site in Hidden. Your files aren't changed.
To stop treating a folder as a project:
- Right-click the project's name in the header, or open its Project Info.
- Choose Stop Treating as Project.
Press ⌘Z to make it a project again.
A folder marked as a project in its .spacecommand.toml (promote = [...]) has no Stop item. Its Project Info says it's marked in that file, so edit the file to take it back.
A project's scope
A project's scope leads with its focus card, then its health card, then its tasks. The health card's activity line, such as "Active today", carries eight weeks of activity bars, as on the board, scaled to the project's own busiest week. Its PLAN.md is one Plan section, with each phase's progress and the current phase's tasks listed under it. Click any phase to open it, and its + adds a task there; open phases stay open per project. Finished phases fold into one line at the top, such as "✓ 10 phases done". Click it to list them, and the fold stays open or closed per project. A phase you just finished keeps its row until the Clear finished items delay passes. Lines tagged with the project's name in other folders gather under "Tagged #name".
What's new
When a project has news, the health card's top line says so: "Since Oct 8th · 5 done · 2 new · 1 flag".
To review the news:
- Click the "Since" line. It opens to what got done, what's new, and any new health flag.
- Click Hide when you're done.
Hide clears the news, and dims the project's name on the board until there's more.
Health flags
Each flag on the health card is a row.
To act on a flag:
- Click the flag. It opens to its evidence.
- Click one of its choices.
| Flag | Opens to | Choices |
|---|---|---|
| A doc may be out of date | When it was reviewed, and how many commits came since | Open, Add Task, Mark Reviewed |
| A setup file is missing, such as a LICENSE | The missing file | Add Task, Ignore |
| Quiet | When it last changed | None |
- Mark Reviewed writes today's date to the doc's
reviewed:field. - Add Task writes a task for the fix, such as "Add a LICENSE", to the project's
TODO.md. The flag then reads "· task in TODO.md". - Ignore drops that file from the project's checks.
Settings › General › Stale after and Docs may be out of date set when a project reads as stale, and when its docs may be out of date.
Project Info
To open Project Info, click the ⓘ on the health card, or right-click the project's name in the header and choose Project Info.
It shows:
- The project's folder. Click it to show the folder in the Finder.
- What it was detected as, and from what.
- Whether you made it a project, with Stop Treating as Project.
- The editor it opens in, which you can change.
- The tags linked to it.
- Its changelog, with Read CHANGELOG.md for tasks.
To unlink a tag, or send it to another project:
- In Project Info, click the tag.
- Choose Unlink, or pick a project from Redirect to.
A repo inside another project, like a vendored theme, can be someone else's, and its health checks are off. To change that, click Treat as Yours or Treat as Someone Else's in its Project Info.
Test folders
A project with open tasks under tests/ or fixtures/ gets a one-time card, such as "3 tasks are in tests/. Leave test folders out?"
- Leave Out adds those folders to the project's
.spacecommand.tomlignores. - Not Now puts the card away.
Bringing things back
Settings › Advanced › Hidden lists everything you put away, each with a way back.
| Put away | Bring back with |

| A test-folder card, or a tag matching two projects, answered Not Now | Ask Again |
| A hidden health check, or an ignored setup file | Show Again |
| An unlinked tag | Link Again |
| A test site, kept out of projects by "Never treat these as Hugo sites" (see Posts) | Treat as Project |
