Key commands
Space Command's keys, by where they work. The panel's keys work while it has the keyboard: click it first if another app is in front.
Anywhere in the app
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| ⌘, | Open Settings |
| ⌘W | Close Settings or About, or hide the panel |
| ⌘Q | Quit Space Command |
With Show in Dock and app switcher on, the menu bar has the app's own menus, and these keys:
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| ⌘H | Hide Space Command |
| ⌘F | Search, also in Edit › Find |
| ⌘? | Open these help pages |
Your own hotkeys
These are unbound until you set them. They work from any app.
| Setting | Does |
|---|---|
| Settings › General › Show or hide the panel | Shows the panel, brings it forward when it's covered, and hides it when it's in front |
| Settings › General › Quiet Mode, beside its switch | Turns Quiet Mode on or off |
| Settings › Clipboard, one per clean-up | Changes what's on the clipboard in place, ready to paste |
To set one:
- Open Settings › General, or Settings › Clipboard for a clean-up.
- Click the hotkey's recorder.
- Press the keys. A shortcut needs ⌘, ⌃, or ⌥. ⌃⌥Space is free on most Macs.
| Key | While recording |
|---|---|
| Esc | Cancel the recording |
| Delete | Clear the shortcut |
A shortcut that another app already holds is turned down with "In use elsewhere".
In the panel
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| ⌘1 | Show the Tasks tab |
| ⌘2 | Show the Posts tab |
| ⌘3 | Show the Clipboard tab |
| ⌥⌘1 | Pick the first scope in the menu: Today, All sites, or All copies |
| ⌥⌘2 | Pick the second scope: All tasks, on the Tasks tab |
| ⌘F | Show search, or put it away. From the list, go back to search's field. |
| Esc | Put search away. From the list, go back to search's field first. |
| ⌘Z | Undo the last change: a tick, a priority, a publish, a Squash Done, a promotion or its stop, or a cleared or removed copy |
| ⌘M or ⌘W | Hide the panel |
| ⌘C | On the Clipboard tab, with a copy open, copy it as you see it: with its clean-ups, or your answers when Q&A is on. With text selected in a field, copy the selection. |
On Tasks, search shows only the focus card and the results. The other cards come back when you clear the search.
Search covers only the tab and scope you're in, quiet projects included:
- On Today, All tasks, or a project, it finds items by their text, tags, @handles, section heading, or file name, at any age: done, rolled-off, and snoozed items too.
- On the All projects board, it finds a project by name or folder.
- On the Posts tab, it finds a post by title, section, or note.
With several words, an item must match them all. Case and accents don't matter, and what matched is marked in Sage.
In a Tasks list
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| ↑ ↓ | Select the previous or next item |
| Space | Complete or reopen it (on an idea, Let Go) |
| 0 to 4 | Set its priority, #p0 to #p4. The same number again clears it. |
| F | Make it the focus, or take its focus away |
| S | Snooze it |
| Return | Open it at its line in your editor |
| Esc | Fold an opened row, or clear the selection |
The selected item gets a Sage ring. The keys don't work on the All projects board, or while search's field has the keyboard. To use them on what search found, click an item or press ↓ from the field; search stays open. The right-click menu on any item shows its keys beside each action, so you can learn them as you go.
While you're picking a focus, after Select a #todo:
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| Return | Pick the selected item |
| Esc | Cancel |
Adding a task
After clicking the + on a group's line:
| Key | Does |
|---|---|
| Return | Write the task, and leave the field open for the next one |
| Esc | Close the field |
Type #p0 to #p4 in the text to set its priority as you go.
About
| Keys | Does |
|---|---|
| Esc or ⌘W | Close About |
Its red button, at the top left, closes it too, as does a click anywhere outside it, until you follow one of its links. Then it stays open behind the browser until you press Esc or ⌘W, or click its red button.
